Dr. Ashley first gravitated toward her fulfilling career path at a young age, encouraged to pursue the path by her supportive parents, particularly her mother, Renee. Upon earning a Bachelor of Science in biology from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia in 2006, she began her journey toward her medical degree at the Boston University School of Medicine, from which she ultimately attained an MD in 2012. She subsequently completed a family and preventive medicine residency at the Emory University School of Medicine for three years, during which time she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic illness that affected her day-to-day life. Despite this adversity, she was able to incorporate her own experiences navigating the illness into her work. Launching her career officially in 2015, Dr. Ashley found success as a family medicine physician at Piedmont Physicians Group in Georgia through 2021. She was then as a family physician at AvitaCare Atlanta from 2021 to 2024. In addition to her primary endeavors, and longtime membership with the American Medical Association, American Board of Family Medicine, and National Medical Association, she has volunteered for several local charities and has been active with Hands-on Atlanta, an organization geared toward communities and schools in need, since 2018. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she tutored bilingual people in math and science through Focused Community Strategies Ministries.
Upon reflection of her career so far, Dr. Ashley considers it an accomplishment to excel in her field as a woman of color.
